Bruckner Chase

Activity: Endurance Waterman
Activism: Ocean Positive

The Life Aquatic has nothing on Bruckner Chase. Think Captain Nemo without a submarine – In the sense that he takes the Ocean and all its contents very seriously. The mission of his non-profit, Ocean Positive, is “To positively impact how we feel, think and act towards our oceans.” And, he spends most of his time in the water. For example, on August 24, 2010 Bruckner swam 25 miles and 14 hours from Santa Cruz to Monterey Bay in an effort to connect those on land with the waters of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and to educate people about the importance of caring for our aquatic ecosystems.

Bruckner encountered everything from massive jellyfish to blue whales, fog and white-capped swells; the moonset over the sea, and the sunrise over the mountains. While the swim was a test of physical and emotional fortitude, it became a means to forge an emotional tie between the communities surrounding the Sanctuary and the fascinating adventures taking place just beyond the shore.

Another unique project started in in April of 2012, Toa o le Tai is a program that offers ocean swimming clinics and inspirational presentations to youth, businesses and community groups while also providing training for the Department of Public Safety Marine Patrol and Firefighters in American Samoa.  The program seeks to inspire the people to re-discover their own personal connection to the oceans and then sharing these connections with communities around the world.  The program also connects individuals and groups to opportunities for marine safety and conservation action to benefit both human and ocean health around the world."

In partnership, All Good appreciates Bruckner as an ocean advocate, a voice for the mystical and wondrous water underworld, and a leader in educating us on how to interact with and treat the ocean mindfully.
